Originating in the 17th century, barometers were used as tools to monitor air pressure and predict rainfall. With this glass barometer, you too can accurately predict incoming storms in your local area. The barometer’s cast iron hanger features a rustic antique finish and can be mounted to your outside wall. Both decorative and practical, it is a wonderful addition to your home. A brilliantly unusual gift for weather watching friends and family!
How a Barometer works
Start by filling the glass vessel with distilled water (use the included syringe) and note the liquid level in the spout. During high air pressure, the water will stay near the base of the spout. This indicates good weather. As the air pressure lowers, the water will rise and even drip out of the spout. This indicates bad weather, potentially a thunderstorm. **TIP** Use included food dye to colour vessel water for easy visibility.
